i'm currently at my friend's house in bangkok near national stadium, and while standing on his balcony, i just noticed what appears to look like two beams of light coming from a nearby area that are soaring into the sky.

i've stood on this balcony during the night countless times before, and i am so certain that these two beams were never there. it feels great to be so far away from home and be able to unexpectedly discover something that is truly commemorating nyc.

it's hard to believe that it's been ten years since the attacks. at that age, i had just graduated high school from francis lewis high school in queens, and was awaiting to start college in the city. i remember that that was also a period where i used to bring out this huge video recorder out whenever i met my friends, and i filmed us going to union square soon after 9/11 in order to pay our respects and mourn with the rest of the city. thinking this makes me feel old, but man, the past ten years sure flew by.

it feels so easy to forget about happened sometimes, but if one thinks about what some of the people who were lost had to experience, it's truly humbling. they were just regular folks going about their days, and unfortunately it happened to be their last. no one deserves that.

let us all be grateful for the blessings we have in life.

as for now i'll leave you with the iconic 9/11 new yorker cover by art speigelman that was published after the attacks.

(i thoroughly enjoyed mr. art spigelman's cover and it took it upon myself to produce these images to post on my blog with my digital subscription to the new yorker. all rights are reserved by the new yorker and will be removed upon request).
