진달래 꽃 by 김소월

나 보기가 역겨워
가실 때에는
말 없이 고이 보내드리오리다

영변에 약산 진달래꽃
아름 따다 가실 길에 뿌리오리다

가시는 걸음 걸음 놓인 그 꽃을
사뿐히 즈려 밟고 가시옵소서

나 보기가 역겨워
가실 때에는
죽어도 아니 눈물 흘리오리다

  1. How freaky that you have this posted. This was one of the last poems that I ever discussed with my colleague and translation partner before I was deported. We had an interesting debate about whether the person spreading the flower petals was a man or a woman. I read the poem and instinctively thought it was a man because men are the romantic ones--a woman would never do anything so silly for a man. And yet, my colleague said that the poem has historically been interpreted as a woman mourning for her lost lover. Psh. I still respectfully disagree.

    How did you become aware of this poem? And who are you referring to? No one posts this poem without having been burned in love... details please!!!!!!
