"Add them up, all the pet dogs on the planet, and you get about 250 million.

But there are about a billion dogs on Earth, according to some estimates. The other 750 million don't have flea collars. And they certainly don't have humans who take them for walks and pick up their feces. They are called village dogs, street dogs and free-breeding dogs, among other things, and they haunt the garbage dumps and neighborhoods of most of the world."

From the April 18, 2016, New York Times story: The World Is Full of Dogs Without Collars. Written by James Gorman.

When I first moved to Thailand five years ago, all of the stray dogs that roamed the streets of Bangkok had an instant impact on me. There were just so many of them on almost every street I walked.

While it was heartbreaking to see, thankfully, because Thailand is predominantly a Buddhist culture, these street dogs of Bangkok were not only left alone, but for the most part treated with kindness and compassion.

If you'd like to see some of the street dogs of Bangkok I captured in my years of living there, please check out the following: STREET DOGS OF BANGKOK.

Here are some more street dogs of Bangkok that I was able to capture.

A quick note about the dog resting on that pile of stuff in the first pic. The moment I snapped the photo, it jumped up and starting chasing me while angrily barking and going nuts. Then one of its equally scary friends suddenly appeared out of nowhere and joined in on the chase. That's basically how I ended up running for my life until they stopped coming after me.

Here's a special edition of street dogs of Bangkok---7-11 style!

I'm not sure if it's for the human attention from possible passersby, or maybe even because of the cool air-conditioning being pumped from within the stores, but some Bangkok street dogs sure love to hang out in front of 7-11's.

Here are some more dogs of Bangkok that I recently captured.

I also love how so many street dogs here seem to have mastered the art of navigating and crossing streets by themselves, like the one in the picture with what appears to be a big T.

It's been over one month since I've last had a meal in the company of another person---it's scary how that can happen so easily...

And with no Internet, tv, or other distractions (except for reading material) at home, walking around Bangkok and taking photos of stray animals is how I enjoy spending a lot of my time.

Up until now, I've mostly only been taking pictures of dogs because I'm more of a dog person. But for every street dog roaming around the city, there's also a homeless cat as well, and here are just a few of them.

I was walking down Ekkamai the other day, and snapped these three street dogs all in the span of one block. Then when passing by later in the night, I discovered that all three of them were hanging out together.

I love their little motley crew.
